Sage Pure smudge stick medium 18cm

White sage (Salvia apiana) is a sacred herb native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It is a perennial shrub with silvery-white leaves and a distinctive, earthy fragrance. White sage has been used for centuries by Indigenous peoples in rituals, ceremonies, and for medicinal purposes.

To use white sage, you typically burn it as incense in a process called smudging. Here's how to do it:

  1. Prepare the sage: Ensure the sage leaves are dried and bundled together. You can purchase bundles of dried white sage from many spiritual or herbal shops.

  2. Ignite the sage: Light one end of the sage bundle with a match or lighter until it begins to smolder and release smoke. Allow the flame to extinguish naturally so that the sage continues to smolder and smoke.

  3. Fan the smoke: Once the sage is smoldering, gently fan the smoke with a feather or your hand to help spread it throughout the space.

  4. Set your intention: Before you begin smudging, it's common to set an intention or prayer for the cleansing or purification of the space, yourself, or others present.

  5. Smudge the space: Walk around the area you wish to cleanse, waving the smoldering sage bundle in a clockwise motion. Pay particular attention to corners, doorways, and areas where negative energy may linger.

  6. Smudge yourself or others: If desired, pass the smudging smoke over yourself or others to cleanse and purify the energy surrounding them.

  7. Extinguish the sage: Once you've finished smudging, carefully extinguish the smoldering sage bundle by pressing it into a fireproof container such as a ceramic bowl or shell until the embers are no longer glowing.

Remember to practice smudging with respect and mindfulness, honoring the tradition and culture from which it originates. It's also essential to ensure proper ventilation when smudging indoors and to respect the beliefs and practices of others who may share the space with you.
